We'll be meeting at my apartment about noonish on Sunday the 31st and coming back Monday. If anyone's interested, let me know.
We’re holding a Harvest Festival & Demo at Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery if anyone is interested. It's a gorgeous location, and should be a fairly laid-back afternoon and evening. The site is open to the mundane public, so period garb is not required. There will be:Displays of various Arts & Sciences projects.Armored combat (bash'em - smash'em).Rapier combat (swishy - pointy).A gambling table with games from Medieval times and the Renaissance. A pot luck dinner. The winery will also be hosting tastings of their selection of period and historical meads. The date is November 11th from noon until 10:00 p.m.It will probably look a lot like this, except that instead of a park in the background, there will be a wine tasting counter. We're still in the planning stages about the dinner, but I'll post more details as I get them if anyone is interested.
Undergraduate ceremony is Friday, May 12th at 7:30 pm.The Mathematics Department ceremony is at 8:30 am Saturday, May 13 and will be held in McBryde 100. Graudation FAQ has not been updated since Feb. Neither has the hotline. Everything points to it for information.Who is coming? When are you getting there?Where are you planning to stay? When are you departing?Yes, the Librarian is getting pushy. We need to know this in order to plan things like dinner, sleeping arrangements, and other entertainment.
I won't bother reposting since you're all on my f-list anyway; but I want all the info to be here so I'll link to the post I just made on my journal.Click here for info regarding On-Campus lodging for graduation
As promised, here are some details about the May Day activities at Hill Top Berry Farm...Like everything in the Shenandoah Valley, this will probably be a very mellow and low-key event, so "Festival" may be too strong a word. From thier website:"May 6-7 May Day Weekend at Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery. Featuring our meads, cyser, melomels, and pyments. We will guide you back to a time long ago; taste and learn about the origin of the world’s oldest alcoholic beverages, known as meads. Savor with medieval foods, games, and live theme music. $10 admission includes logo glass and festivities; children free." As part of the event, my local SCA group is putting on a "demo" which is aimed at showing the general public what we do, mainly to try to attract new members. Unfortunately, Crown Tourney is the same weekend, so there probably won't be very much heavy fighting since the fighters will at that event. There will be a lot of Arts & Sciences stuff on display, especially medievel weaving, gambling, and dancing.I'll post more details as I get them (we are still in the very early planning stages).
I got pics ready to go. I just need emails for Pippy, JPL, and Q's Mom. Yes, his Mom. I'm silly like that
Working on getting them to quasadu for uploading them to his gallery.Having delivery issues. Stay tuned for more details.
Even though mintdelay and 1_big_grizz had to back out on the trip at the last minute, the rest of us had a fantastic time. ( Cut since you're all on my f-list anywayCollapse )
Quas, because of calling in sick for the past two days and only working about 6 hours today, I'm going to have to put in a full day tomorrow, which means I wouldn't be ready to hit the road until about 6:00 or 7:00. I think that's about the time you said you and Any were going to show up anyway, but wanted to give you a heads up. Let me know if that's going to be a problem.
Okay folks, it's almost time for the big (little) meet in DC! I know I'm excited. Once upon a time there was a group called MARS; Mid-Atlantic Region Scapers. We had a blast all up and down the east coast, and I miss them good ol' days. The buildup to this meet in DC has gotten me thinking that we should once again try to have an organized way of getting together, and a LiveJournal community seemed like the perfect thing. So here it is! To start things off, here's a list of several of the more recent (and chock-fulla info) posts about the meet. Everyone should go back and take a look at these posts again. That way we're all on the same page. In particular, check Ranga's (smg55039) post about planning. It's got tons of links for transportation and entertainment. Take a look. See if there's anything that looks fun that you wanna do.
